We are the light
I wrote this a while back as a motivational speech.
Humans in their very nature have always been afraid of things they can’t understand, things they cannot comprehend. Whether it be the Catholic Church, which put Galileo Galilei under house arrest for 8 years until his death for saying that the Earth moves around the Sun, Max Planck, who did not want to believe his own theory, or Albert Einstein, who was afraid of the randomness that is Quantum Mechanics, it happens with everyone.
These people ask for fairness in the world, for justice, the example being Einstein himself saying that God doesn’t play dice with the universe. But the thing is that there is no justice in the laws of nature, no term for fairness in the equations of motion. The Universe is neither good nor evil, it simply does not care. The stars, the Sun, the sky, none of them care.
But they don’t have to, because WE care. There IS light in the Universe and that is US. There is always light in humans, whether it be the Catholic Church, which provided education and welfare to millions, Max Planck, who did his best to believe in his theory even though he did not want to, or Albert Einstein, who showed that even the planets don’t quite follow Newton’s laws.
Think of coal. One of the darkest matters available to us. And we have a proverb, find a diamond in the rough of coal. I think that is wrong. A diamond has not helped humanity even close to what coal has. A diamond can just reflect. Just shine. It was jewellery. Coal, because of humans, gave us light for over two centuries. Did it cause pollution to levels that are dangerous for humanity? Yes. But it was also the thing that brought us to the level where we can, not just fix it, but be better than we were before. The darkest matter we know brought us from the darkest ages of humanity to the brightest stages we know. And if humanity keeps going as it always has, this brightest era we have ever seen will also be darker than our future.
It doesn’t matter if you are afraid, confident, or feeling anything else, always remember to be cautious and always believe in yourself. Never give in to fear and always spread the light within you towards everyone else. Remember, coal was sitting there underground for millions of years before we made it give light. We are the light in the universe.
